Special Meeting of all Eucharistic Ministers: Thursday, April 20th at
7:30 p.m. in the church. The Diocese
is moving towards Communion Under Both Species at every Sunday liturgical celebration.
Communion from the Cup: Fr. Bill Burke, head of the Office of Worship
writes, ".. .I am asking you to work
towards a restoration of Communion from the cup at all Sunday celebrations of
the Eucharist in the Diocese.
The right of individuals to receive in the form of bread only must be entirely
respected. However, the cup
should be offered to those who desire it.. .I recognize that some people may
pose health or addictions
considerations as an objective to this practice. Again, the choice of anyone
not to receive from the cup must be
respected.. .On a further point, as we introduce this practice more fully, I
need to address the practice of
intinction (dipping the host into the consecrated wine).. .The practice that
sometimes exists of intinction
performed by the communicant is forbidden. Moreover, the liturgical law now
in place for Canada strongly
recommends against the practice of intinction generally, even intinction by
an eucharistic minister. I would ask
therefore, especially for the sake of consistency, that the practice of intinction
not be introduced in the Diocese,
and that where any form of it now exists, it be phased out by Pentecost."
I wish to extend to all parishioners the hope of a meaningful Easter experience.
Special thanks to all who
attended the practices, cleaned and prepared the church atmosphere and served
in any manner. - Fr. Barrett
