Sacrament of Reconciliation: (Confessions) Before evening weekday Masses or by request.
Advent: Within the Catholic Christian Tradition, the Liturgical or Church Year begins with Advent,
the first Sunday after the Feast of Christ the King. The Bible readings for this year will come from
the Sunday Lectionary, Cycle A. Advent has a twofold nature: it prepares us for Christmas, and it is a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of ages. Advent is a season of joyful expectation. Advent is sometimes lost in the busy schedule of Christmas. Traditions like the
Advent wreath help us to slow down and focus on this holy season with a sense of prayer. The Advent wreath has its origins in the ancient fire wheel of pagan times. Today, Christians celebrate
the circle as a symbol of God and the Father's presence throughout human history. The wreath is made of four candles; three purple and one pink in a circle of evergreens. The purple candles represent the spirit of the Advent Season: we always need Christ in our lives. The pink candle is lit
on the Third Sunday of Advent and symbolizes the mood of joy that is growing stronger because we know that our Saviour will soon be with us. Evergreen branches encircling the four candles remind
us of the eternal love of God, in Christ, which is without beginning and end. The candles represent the four weeks of Advent. The wreath may be blessed on the First Sunday, in Advent, after the homily; the usual place for blessing in the renewed Mass. During the rest of Advent, the wreath may be lighted before Mass, without ceremony, as we do with the Easter candle during the Pascal season (National Bulletin on Liturgy. vol.12#71). Light is the most powerful symbol of the Advent season. "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light..." (Isaiah 9:1).Sunday Missal 2007-2008 - available for sale in the church vestry. Cost - $4.00.

Jesse Tree: The Social Action Committee will put up the Advent Jesse Tree. Donations can be made to the Social Action Committee in support of the Food Bank and their other works. The Jesse Tree uses illustrations to represent the genealogy of Christ. Each illustration is a symbol for some
part of the story of the coming Messiah. Bethlehem: Bethlehem means "House of Bread." It was designated as the birthplace of Christ, the Bread from Heaven. The Root of Jesse: Isaiah prophesied that the Saviour would be born from the root of Jesse; that the Saviour would sit upon the throne of David and, in Christ, this prophecy is fulfilled. The Star of David: The six-pointed
star is the emblem of the Royal House of David even to this day, Christ, who is born of the House
of David can truly claim this emblem as his own. Jacob's Ladder: Jacob saw a ladder reaching
from heaven to earth, with angels descending and ascending. Christ, the Incarnate God (God-made-human while still God), is the Ladder reuniting earth to heaven; humanity to God.Angel Trees: Parishioners can donate a small angel to be hung on our Angel trees in memory of a deceased loved one. Please place your angel in the box at the main entrance of the church, and mark on the angel the names of the deceased and donors.
