As well as taking part in the Sunday celebration, why not try to go to Mass more often during Advent? If
someone is sick at home, arrange to have Communion brought several times during the Advent Season.
Meetings: Finance Committee on Tuesday, December 5that 7:30p.m. in the glebe.
L'Ardoise C@P Site: The C@P Site has been closed for the time being and the high speed internet has been
placed on standby. This action was necessary due to lack of funding. We, along with the RCAS (Richmond
County Access Society), are exploring other avenues of funding in the hope that we will be able to re-open the
C@P site as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. Rene Samson, L.E.A.D.
Confirmation: Class will take place on Sunday, December 3rd at 6:30 p.m. (6:00 - Make-up class for those
who missed the previous week's lesson) in the Community Center.
What is Advent? Advent, from Latin Adventus, means coming. During the four weeks before Christmas, we
look forward to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ as king and judge at the end of time, and to our Christmas
celebration of his coming as our Saviour over 2,000 years ago.
Jesse Tree: Each Advent, the Social Action Committee has the Jesse Tree in the sanctuary. A Jesse Tree is
decorated with symbols of Christ's ancestors. The Committee is requesting monetary donations. A reminder
that donations for the Social Action Committee can be pinned on the Jesse Tree. There will be envelopes
available for you, at the base of the tree, to place your donation in. Please put your church number on the
envelope, so that you can get credit for your donation. The money will be used throughout the year for needy
families.
Symbols of the Jesse Tree: Dove - the anointing of Jesus (The dove descended on Jesus, marking the
beginning of his earthly ministry); Apple - Adam & Eve (Reminds us of the Fall and our need for a Saviour);
Noah' Ark - Noah preserved the natural life of all within the Ark; Star - Creation (God made the world and
everything in it); Ram - Passover (God's faithfulness to deliver his people from bondage in Egypt); and Ladder
- In a vision, Jacob saw a ladder reaching from heaven to earth with angels descending and ascending. More
symbols next week.
Angel Tree: This Christmas, we will have our Angel Tree(s) once again. Angels donated in previous years
will be hung on the trees. If anyone would like to donate a new angel in memory of someone, please put it in a
box at the church entrance. Attach the name of the deceased and who it is from to the angel. Angels are to be
no more than three to four inches in height.
