Pastoral Planning: The three pastoral units of Isle Madame, East Richmond
and West Richmond met on
Tuesday, June 14th, 2005 in Louisdale. Special guest, Fr. Paul Abbass. Chairperson
Lester Morgan invited each
representative to give their report on the parish council reactions to the last
meeting minutes. Fr. Abbass'
response to these reports is that we need to look at how we can best serve our
people. We have two choices.
First: We can have a say in how we work together by considering
the needs of our neighboring parishes.
Second: We can just wait and not work together and maybe, in three
years, the Bishop will decide what
parishes will be joined and how many priests are available and we will have
to accept it without a choice. We
should be looking at ways to combine services and work together before the need
is too great. The first step is
to work on a Mass schedule where priests from surrounding parishes could cover
for each other while on
vacation or sick. Priests need input from laity on Mass schedules, religious
education programs, confirmation,
etc. Evangelization is everyone's duty, and we can let parishioners know what
is going on with pastoral
planning. It was suggested that each parish make a presentation on the following
at the next meeting. How are
we coping, financially? What are our needs? Religious Education? Youth? Evangelization
strategies?
Buildings? How can we work together? Mass times? How many people in the parish?
Average age? Church
attendance? Any other topic felt as important?
Acadian Festival: Much work goes into the preparation and serving of
meals during the Acadian Festival.
Please consider helping in any way you can. We especially need people to help
in the kitchen, and to serve
meals, as well as cooking and carving turkey. Festival dates are July 27-30.
Apology: re Wedding anniversaries - congratulations to Edna & Walter
Martell (instead of Edna & Walter
Sampson).

Visiting: Fr. Barrett does not have the time to visit everyone in the
parish. If you would like a visit from him,
please feel free to give him a call and make arrangements. The topic of a parish
census will be brought to parish
pastoral council in the Fall. The carrying out of a parish census involves the
establishment of a sub-committee.
This committee works on designing a census form; organizing the parish into
sections; finding volunteers to
carry out the census; distributing and collecting the census forms from the
volunteers, and finding someone to
put the census information on the parish computer and make a back-up copy. A
parish census, as with so many
other things in the parish, is not a one person effort.
Volunteer Gardeners: We need volunteer gardeners to weed the flower
patch around the front walkway of the
glebe. People who can identify what flowers are already there and make recommendations
and plant more
flowers, if need be. Also, looking for people willing to donate and plant trees,
shrubs and/or hedges around the
glebe.
Wanted! Housekeeper!: Fr. Barrett is looking for a housekeeper to do
heavy and light house cleaning. Heavy
house cleaning involves the washing of walls and the shampooing of carpets (once
a year). Light housekeeping
once a week. No cooking involved. $8.00 an hour. Interested persons are encouraged
to contact the glebe by
the end of July.
Getting in touch with Fr. Barrett: If you want to get in touch with
Fr. Barrett, please call and leave a
message.
Congratulations all students who are graduating from high school this
week. Best wishes in your future
endeavours. With schools closing for the summer break, we wish all students
a Happy & Safe Summer!!
Have a good week!!!

JUNE 2006 UPDATE
WYD 2008 Theme: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come
upon you;
and you will be my witnesses." (Acts 1:8)
Our whole group would like to take this opportunity to thank the parishioners
for
their very generous support. Our last two fundraisers were great successes.
The Vesey's Bulb Campaign helped to raise $824.00 towards our goal and our
last endeavor, the yard sale raised $1100.00 plus $72.00 in 50/50 ticket sales.
The winner
of our draw was Sharla Mombourquette. Special thanks to Raymonde Burke for
organizing the yard sale.
Currently members of the committee are working on a sponsorship campaign.
Local area businesses have been contacted with a request from the group for
their support
in upcoming fundraising events. They are being asked to commit to a donation
of
merchandise or money to help with our efforts. Any business owner in our area
who did
not receive a letter and who would like to make a donation, please contact Anita
Penney.
There is also an account set up at the Credit Union for donations. (Tax receipts
will be
issued.) There is an account sent up in St.Peters at the bottle exchange for
anyone who
wishes to donate their bottle refunds to our cause. -- -
We are booked with a tour company for our Australia trip. Groups from the
Sydney and New Waterford areas are on the same tour. We will be on a 17-day
pilgrimage. The estimated cost per person is $3800.00. We are raising money
for the 7
young parishioners so our total goal is $ 24,500.00.
A small group will attend World Youth Day Atlantic in Moncton in August. This
event will be run similarly to the event in 2008 so our young people will get
a preview of
what to expect.
