L' Ardoise Acadian Festival- July 27th- 30th: The 44th edition of the Festival kicks off on Thursday with the
official opening slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude on Sunday evening with a Giant Card Game and
the various ticket draws. The four days are packed with the usual activities for young and old, residents and
visitors from near and far. We anticipate that with your support and participation, the festival will be as
successful as the other forty-three. Many hands make light work. If you can assist in any way please do so and
we hope that you, your family and friends will have an enjoyable festival weekend. ---Festival Committee 2006

Acadian Festival: Meals are an important part of Acadian Day Festival. You are reminded that a lot of help is
needed to make these meals successful. Kitchen help: if you can offer a few hours of your time (men or
women) to serve meals, wash dishes, etc. please call 587-2171 or the Community Center 587-2011. Dining
room:
If you can help serving in the dining-room for any or all meals, please call Elaine Sampson.
Also: We need help with carving turkeys etc. Call 587-2171.

Acadian Festival: If you haven't been asked to donate food stuffs to the Festival meals and you wish to do so,
you may drop it off at the hall anytime or call 587-2171. We need baked goods, rolls, mixed vegetables etc.

44th L'Ardoise Acadian Festival Evangeline & Gabriel Pageant - Thursday July 27th, 2006 --
Any children interested in registering for the Evangeline & Gabriel Pageant can do so by phoning Tanielle
Collier at 587-2011 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) or see her at the L' Ardoise Community Center. The age categories
are Senior Evangeline & Gabriel (9 & over); Junior Evangeline & GabIjel (5 - 8 yrs); and Pre-school (4 &
under). Limited amount of costumes available.

45's Card Game: As part of L' Ardoise Acadian Festival, there will be a 45's Card Game on Sunday, July 30th
at 8:00 p.m. at the L' Ardoise Community Center. Prizes will be - 1st- $500.00; 2nd- $300.00; 3rd- $200.00
plus a half & half ticket draw. Admission is $20.00 per couple and advance sale of tickets can be purchased
from Kathleen Bona; Blanche Sampson; or Joe Mombourquette.

Guest Speaker: Our guest speaker at the opening ceremonies of the Acadian Festival will be seminarian Brad
Sweet. Brad has a doctorate in Acadian Education History from the University of South Africa. Brad plans to
speak about some of the people, from L' Ardoise, who went on to teach in other communities. He currently
resides in Louisdale where he is doing his parish pastoral year (all of Isle Madame) as part of his seminary
training.

Pastoral Planning: Fr. Paul Abbass did get back to the Richmond Deanery. The result was the formation of
three new pastoral units: Louisdale/D'Escousse; West Arichat/Arichat/Petit de Grat, and River Bourgeois/St
Peters/Barra Head. Louisdale/D'Escousse and West Arichat/Arichat/Petit de Grat are being served by a pastoral
team consisting of Fr. Gary MacPherson, Fr. Duaine Devereaux, seminarian Brad Sweet, religious sisters and
laity. Fr. Everett MacDow is looking after River Bourgeois, St Peters and Barra Head. Not all parishes in the
Diocese will be clustered.

ReligiousEducation: The Sunday morning children's program during the 10:30 a.m. Mass will continue
throughout the summer months

Tour of new Richmond Villa Facility: Richmond Villa will be offering a series of tours of the new facility.
Family members of Richmond Villa Residents - Monday, July 24th - 4 p.m.; Richmond Villa Volunteers-
Monday, July 24th- 6 p.m.; General Public - Tuesday, July 25th- 4 p.m.; Wednesday, July 26th- 6 p.m.; &
Thursday, July 27th- 4 p.m. Please note: Advance registration is required for all tours. Advanced
registration is necessary to ensure we have sufficient staff to conduct the tours. To register you must call the
Richmond Vdla at 535-3030 during business hours. Monday to Friday (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and give your name to
Diane Terrio or Leona Burke. At each tour, names will be checked off and only those registered will be
accepted. Each tour will take 60-90 minutes. All registered individual are asked to meet at the FRONT
ENTRANCE of the new facility 10 minutes prior to the tour time.

L' Ardoise Senior's Jolly Club: To prevent possible conflict with tickets usually sold at the Acadian Festival,
it was mutually agreed that the Senior's Jolly pub 50-50 ticket draw will not take place in July. Any tickets
sold in July will be honored during the August draw.

Congratulations to Emeline Peters who celebrated her 101st birthday on July 20th.

Teddy Bear/Superhero Health Picnic for preschool to age 8 children will be held on Tuesday, August 1st,
2006 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at St Peters Battery Park. Bring a Teddy Bear and have him or her checked by our
Teddy Bear nurse and enjoy an afternoon ofteddy bear health events. Sponsored by Dr. Kingston Memorial
Clinic Health Project.

Children's Day Camp Program: A wholesome program for children 5 - 10 years of age, supervised by the
Recreation Department's summer staff. Planned activities include: Arts & crafts, indoor and outdoor activities
such as games, sports, hikes, picnics, singing and storytelling. 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily. Fee: $10.00 per
child. Please have your child bring their lunch daily. L' Ardoise Community Center - August 7 - 11
Registration will be held at 9:30 a.m. on August 7.

The 2006 Sand Castle Art Contest day on Sunday, July 23rd at Point Michaud Beach. Registration opens at
11:00 a.m. Cash prizes awarded in both Castle and Sculpture categories. All youth registered receive a prize.
Judging at 3:00 p.m. The entry fee is $10.00 per site

This Ability Sailing Regatta: July 29 & 30, St Peters Marine. Everyone welcome. Free for persons with
disAbilities. Activities include sailing lessons, on water participation races and games. All instructors are
certified by the Canadian Yachting Association. For more info please call the Marina @ 535-2729.

St Peter's Night Light Boat Parade on Saturday, July 29th at the St Peters Marina at 9 p.m. Everyone

Bras D'Or Lake Market every Saturday (indoor and outdoor) from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Property of MacDonald

The Annual MacAskill Museum Auction will be held at the St Peters Lions Hall, St Peters on Wednesday,
August 2. Viewing begins at 6:00 p.m. Auction starts at 7:00 p.m. Items include new merchandise, gift
certificates, antiques and home baking. Door prizes and bidders' prizes. Auctioneer is Joey Jones.
