Annual Meeting of Holy Guardian Angels and Immaculate Conception Parishes: Sunday, May 25th at 7:30 pm in the L'Ardoise Community Center (basement). Parish Pastoral Council will meet at 6:30 pm.

L'Ardoise Legion Meeting on Tuesday, May 20th at 7:30 pm. Executive at 7 pm.

Acadian Festival Update: The 2008 L'Ardoise Acadian Festival committee is pleased to inform you to the following additions to our program. The Sons of Maxwell will be performing at our Festival Dance, Saturday, July 26. Advance tickets will be sold. $15 per person. For tickets contact Scott Mombourquette at 587-2262. The RCMP Pipe and Drum Band will be part of our Festival Parade on Sunday, July 27 at 2 pm. The program is in its final stages, the Festival is coming together. Anyone interested in helping contact a committee member. Next Festival meeting will be Sunday, June 8 at 2 pm in the basement of the community center.

Ultreva: The nest ultreya will be at the St Louis Parish Hall in Louisdale on Tuesday, May 20th at 7:30 pm. Our challengers will be hosting the meeting. Please Be a Friend and Bring A Friend.

A bus trip to Monastery to celebrate the Feast of St Anne is scheduled for July 26. Fr. Albert MacPherson will be in attendance. For more information, please phone Yvonne at 862-6781.

HGA Religious Education: The closing will be celebrated with the First Communion children at the Community Center after 9:30 Mass on May 25. The First Communion practice will be held on Saturday, May 24th @ 10:00 a.m. in the Church. Thank you to everyone who helped our children along their faith journey: the families for bringing them to Mass and to class, the volunteer teachers for their time and efforts, the parishioners for their prayers and encouragement, Father Barrett for his leadership, and especially our beautiful children who are open to the Holy Spirit. God bless you all.

Volunteers Needed: Do you enjoy a rewarding challenge? Think about volunteering to teach catechism to a small group of children on Sunday mornings after the 9:30 mass at Holy Guardian Angels. We are especially in need of someone for the Grade 2 (First Communion) and the grade 4 classes. The lessons are prepared and the children are a joy to work with. Cape Breton's Family Resource Center at the L'Ardoise Community Center on Monday, May 26 from 9:30 - 11:30 am (newborn to 6 years).

Summer Employment Opportunity: The L'Ardoise C@p Site is seeking an energetic and committed individual to perform the duties of a C@p site intern for fourteen weeks. The work term is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 26 and end on Friday, August 29. Guidelines:
-The student must be currently enrolled in a university or community college program or the like.
--The student must be graduating in June and provide documents that he/she will be entering university, community college and the like in September.
-The student must possess basic computer skills and demonstrate ability to perform a number of computer related tasks.
-A written application including a resume, work experience, and two references is required.

Bursaries: Graduating high school students from Holy Guardian Angels and Immaculate Conception Parishes who wish to receive a bursary from their respective parishes are asked to mail or e-mail a letter to that effect to Holy Guardian Angels Parish, P.O. Box 145, L'Ardoise, N.S., BOE ISO or hgap@stpeterscable.com by May 23rd.

Knights of Columbus: Once again all Knights of our St Peters Council 14280 are reminded that Sunday, May 25, 2008 we are hosting a Vocations presentation by Father Conrad Edwards. Time is 2:30 pm in the basement of Parish Glebe. Please support this most important gathering. All parishes are welcome to attend. Knights are requested to bring a plate of sandwiches or sweets for a reception to follow the presentation.

Notice: Anna Mombourquette of L'Ardoise continues to receive cancer treatment and is currently in her second round of chemotheraphy. An account has been set up at the Credit Union (L'Ardoise) "in trust" and will be used to assist Anna with travel and related medical expenses. Any person or organization wishing to contribute may do so at the Credit Union. Anna is also in the process of moving to a new apartment and will need help in getting set up. If anyone has household items (bed clothes, towels, linen, toiletries, dishes, etc.) that you wish to donate please contact Sally Anne at 587-2171. Thank you for helping Anna Mombourquette and please keep her in your prayers.

Anniversary Celebrations: We are again planning for our yearly marriage anniversary celebrations. All couples celebrating 25, 40, or 50 years and over who were married in Holy Guardian Angels Parish or who are now living in our parish are invited. Date for celebration will be on Saturday, May 24th. Social from 4-5 pm and dinner at 5 pm.

Municipality of the County of Richmond Heavy Garbage Collection will be carried out between May 20 and June 14, 2008. Materials must be at the curbside by 8:00 am on the first day of the week in which the collection is scheduled for your area. Please place similar items such as metals and loose wood in separate piles at the curbside. Please note that no scavenging of materials at the curbside by third parties is permitted. Week 1 -Point Michaud and Lower L'Ardoise. Week 2 - L'Ardoise to St Peters.

Arichat Chapter of the Relay for Life: If you are a cancer survivor and would like to register for the Survivor Supper and the Victory Lap at the Arichat Relay for life on June 6th, please contact Charlene Bonin or Jessica Farrell. Arichat Relay for Life will be held at Ecole Beauport. Luminaries - $5.00 each in honor of or in memory of ??? ...Please contact Beverly Benoit. Thank You: We, the family of the late Agnes Sutherland, would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all who were so thoughtful and caring to our mom while she was in hospital. Our sincere thanks to relatives, friends, and neighbours for their caring thoughts through phone calls, visits, prayers, donations, food, floral tributes, masses and sympathy cards. Special thanks to Nancy Cameron, Annie Gillis, Sister Catherine Anne, Sister Josephine, Fr. Alex and Fr. McDow. Also thank you to the paramedics, nurses and doctors of St Martha's, C. B. Regional, Glace Bay and Strait Richmond Hospitals. Thank you to Fr. Barrett for the lovely mass, Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home for their care and compassion, and to the pallbearers, servers, readers, and church choir. The reception provided by the Salmon River Community Center was greatly appreciated. Safe Grad Bottle Drive: The graduating students from Richmond Academy are fund-raising to ensure this worthy program continues. They will be conducting a bottle drive between May 19 and June 8 in the Richmond County area. Please give generously. A Safe Grad account has been set up at the recycling depot if you happen to miss them and would like to make a donation. Thank you in advance for your support

Financial Support for the International Eucharistic Congress: June 15-22, Canada will welcome the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec City. A special collection is being held in all Canadian parishes next weekend when we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Our Lord. The Congress' organizers hope to count again on your generosity to ensure the success of this event. It is also possible to make a contribution by cheque to International Eucharistic Congress Quebec 2008 and send it to 1073 Rene-Levesque Ouest, Quebec City, QC, GIS 4R5
