Parish Pastoral Council: Call for nominations. We are starting now to ask parishioners to consider someone
for parish pastoral council, and to put the name in a box at the Church entrance. You must have the permission
of the person first. Outgoing parish pastoral council members are Rene Samson, Jean Pottie, Jean C. Pottie and
Elsie Deveau. Elsie has re-offered for a second term. The box will be out until September 13th. We need
three people.
The important features of the parish pastoral council are (Parish Pastoral Council Guidelines,
Diocese of Antigonish, p. 4): "Prayerful" The work of the council is rooted in personal and community prayer.
"Pastoral" The council approaches its service to the parish in a spirit of pastoral care. What are the priorities of
the parish? "Representative" The council represents the entire community, not special interest groups. It has a
concern for all members of the community. "Prophetic" Being prophetic means we have a keen sense of God's
justice for the poor, the disadvantaged and the marginalized. "Enabling" The council seeks to identify and
encourage the use of the gifts of parishioners.

L' Ardoise Acadian Festival 2005: In an attempt to provide parishioners with a financial report from the

We would like to do that again for Debbie Parsons (daughter of Phoebe and Donnie Boudreau, formerly of
Gracieville) and for all those suffering with cancer, especially those in our own community. The prayer chain
would go from 6 a.m. to 10p.m. each day for the month of September. Anyone who would like to participate,
please sign up to prayer for a half hour each day. The list is on the table at the back of the church. Thank you.

Terry Fox Run: This is an exciting year for the Terry Fox Run. It marks the 25th anniversary of what was the
start of, and has become a world wide event that brings people of all cultures together, but all have one thing in
common, we all want a cure for cancer. Unfortunately, the last few years have not been very well attended, but
if only for this year, I ask you.to join our regular walkers and make this the best year yet! Walk in memory, or
in support of someone who has battled this terrible disease. I know people from this area are generous and
supportive, so many families have experienced this first hand; but now this is another small way to help. If you
don't want to go around and collect pledges, you may come the day of the walk and make a personal donation.
The run is on September 18th and registration is in the bottom of the Community Center (for this year) and runs
from 2 - 4 pm. You may walk, run, bike, or in-line skate. Refreshments will be served. Through sheer
determination Terry made a difference, now it is up to us to continue his legacy. Together cancer can be beaten.
Hope to see you there! Lesa Oakley, Run Co-ordinator

Collection on 25 September: If your were asked to describe the work of the Canadian Conference of Catholic
Bishops (CCCB), how would you answer? If you answered that, as the name indicates, it brings together the
Bishops of Canada, allowing them to work collectively for the good of our Church, you would be right! Many
people also know the Conference through its work in co-ordinating major events, such as World Youth Day or
the veneration of the relics of St Therese of Lisieux across Canada. The CCCB also participates actively in
dialogue with representatives of other Christian churches and religions. The Conference encourages missionary
and evangelical work throughout the world, but also here in Canada, in the Far North. The CCCB also works in
collaboration with Development and Peace - an organization that it founded - to promote international
solidarity. It urges our government on topics important to Canadians, including marriage, health care, child
poverty, respect for life and the state of the family. Within our Church, the CCCB plays a unique and
irreplaceable role, as do the diocese and the parish. In order to continue its work, the Conference needs your
financial assistance. Thank you in advance for your generous donation on the occasion of the Bishops'
Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada, which will be held on Sunday 25 September 2005.
